Vacuum Forming

MM Glider Tech is able to offer Custom Vacuum Forming Service. We have used this process of thermoforming for over 18 years. At times specific customers have asked us to vacuum form certain items. We have extended our service to the public. This simplified version of thermoforming is a process by which sheets of plastic are heated to a soft state, stretched onto or into a single-surface mold, and then held against the mold by applying a vacuum force between the mold and the warm, malleable plastic. Once released from the vacuum, the plastic is an exact representation of the mold's shape.
The materials we use to vacuum form are 0.015 to 0.060 white and .030 to .090 black, high impact polystyrene. With this material we can make cockpit interior, fairings, fillets, wing tips, cowlings, wheel skirts and rocket parts. We also use 0.015 to 0.050 clear PETG plastic and clear polycarbonate. This is used for canopies, windshields and blister packing. In the last few years we have expanded our capability to automotive race car parts, architectural projects and other types of non aircraft parts. We will work with you one on one from product design to manufacturing to delivery. We provide quality-driven service and cost-saving solution.

The cost is determined by size and quantity of the part. Please call for estimates. We are also capable of making molds at a flat rate of $25.00 per hour with a two hr. min. We can produce large or small quantities.

Die Cutting

MM Glider Tech is providing a die cutting service which can be utilized by manufacturers who would like high quality die cutting with a low cost. The dies and parts are NOT laser cut. Instead, the dies are steel rule razors that are mounted in plywood. The actual die is furnished by the customer or is made by a die maker that is familiar with our company and requirements. This together with our unique method of setup results in a very high quality part.

1910 Printing Press
The die press that we use was Mfg. in 1910. With that type of combination, the dies will last over 50,000 impressions or more. We do it the "Old School" way!
Die prices range from $75.00 to $300.00 depending on the complexity. The dies remain the property of the customer. The materials we are able to die cut are 3" and 4" wide balsa wood with the maximum length of 20". The cost of die cutting is a flat rate of $0.15 dry & $0.20 wet per impression.
We are able to cut 1/32" to 3/16" balsa and light plywood. Also 1/64" to 1/8" plywood. Very light balsa wood can also be cut with a wet process that has to be racked to dry. This has an added cost for a total of $0.20 each. We can also cut stickers, 2mm & 4mm coroplast and plastic parts. All wood can be supplied by us or by the customer. Setup charge for die cutting is a flat rate of $15.00 per job (not per die).
