This is a photo of my Marauder, 31 days from the box til the first flight. It had it's first flight at the end of a hi-start event at the Blue Ridge Area Soaring Society. The rest of the flyers were impressed with it's performance. First flight specked out off a 1/4 inch hi-start. I didn't even bother with a hand toss.

I have been working on my new Marauder kit.  It seems well thought-out and goes together easily.  It is a joy to build. Too bad everybody seems to think they need to have an ARF or zillion dollar carbon ship to have fun anymore.............
 Thanks,

The Marauder is a great aircraft for RES when built stock. I like to experiment so I made a few modifications to mine. I reduced the height and width of the fuse, made a bolt on wing, and lightened the wing tips and tail. I also added some carbon fiber and extra dihedral braces to the spar so that I can winch lanch it aggressively. Mine came out at 52 oz and can be ballasted with a pound of lead. The plane flies great! It goes up straight on the launch and the wing can take whatever the winch has to offer. I like its ability to turn very tightly- even close to the ground- without any tendency to fall off. The spoilers (top only) are very effective and make the landings very predictable. I've already won one of our club contests with it and I'm sure there will be more. The best part though is the way it majestically cruises through the air. Good Job Merrill!

Merrill,
I love this plane!! Built it in 2 1/2 weeks, just in time fore Visalia. I got it repaired after having the winch line wrap around the tail, I was surprised to see no damage other than split monokote and exploded battery pack after going straight into the ground....one tough plane. Landings come pretty easy with this plane and the launches are strong. There are times it just doesn't want to come down. Thanks for all of your help trimming it out, I just wish I could have had more time with it before the contest.

After 2 years on the slope I had an itch to try thermal flying so my Marauder is serving duty as my first TD plane. The kit is well thought out and goes together very nicely. The Marauder is very predictable with no bad tendencies and thermals very well, even in the hands of this novice. I built mine heavy at ~71oz yet it has no trouble staying up with much lighter planes. I have quickly come to enjoy this plane as it has far exceeded my expectations. I have a lot to learn in this new area of flying and expect that the Marauder will continue to serve me well for many years to come.

Merrill,
"The was my first time building a balsa plane and my second glider. I took my time and asked lots of questions on RCGroups along the way. Three months from opening the box on a cold February night until the first flight on a warm Spring morning. I built it totally stock according to the directions/plans and boy am I glad I did! The first flight went straight up the histart, requiring very little rudder trim. CG and towhook position are very forgiving - this plane just loves to fly!
